General Information:

AKA Four Star - Now Carr Entertainment

Opened by 1914 as the A-Muz-U Theatre. It was renamed Star Theatre in 1927 and was located on South Main Street at Route 10. It seated a little under 500. The theatre closed for a short time in 1959 then reopened later in the year. It remained a downtown showplace until the late-1990’s.

It is now the home of Carr Communications which is an internet provider for the area. The marquee is still intact and in great shape, used by Carr for advertising their rates for internet service. The vertical is still above the marquee and in good shape also.

Info Updates:

The refurbished marquee at the old 4-Star Theater building, 111 S. Main St. in Scottville, was lit Wednesday night during a special ceremony at the building currently occupied by Carr Communications. The building and business are owned by Mitch and Toni Bogner. The refurbished marquee was the Bogners’ matching portion of a grant received by the Scottville Main Street program through the Michigan Housing Development Authority. The state’s portion of the grant paid for the renovation of the building’s façade, a $30,000 project. The building was built in 1915 and operated as a theater until the early 1980s. From 1935 to its closing, the 4-Star Theater was owned by Glenn and Jesse Wallace. Scottville Main Street Manager Josh Spencer said the marquee will be available to promote community events.

Along with the restored marquee (which is now red and blue to match the vertical sign), the entire theater front has been restored. This summer the brickwork on the cornice was repaired. More recently the modern storefront was removed and the classic center ticket window with flanking double doors was recreated.

The marquee has been completely renovated and a state of the art LED sign will be installed to replace the old section for listing movies etc. Due to be back up on the front of the recently restored facade too.

This theater was open into the mid 70's. I used to go to the movies there when I would visit my cousins who lived on a nearby farm.
