This motel was near Otsego Lake, the Golf Course, Old US-27 and I-75 according to the postcards. It was operated by the following people over the years, in no particular order: Eva & Carl Hash, Clarence & Jerry DeNike, and Sid & Rita Hancock. There may have been others. There are ads for it dating back to 1965 so it goes back that far at least. It came up for sale in 1973 for 60 grand. It had 18 units and a coffee shop adjacent to it.
My best guess on the location is where America's Best Value Inn (formerly Gaylord Inn and Econolodge) sits as of 2024. The general layout of the lot is very close although the building is pretty different. The 1981 aerial photo lines up pretty good in terms of the size and shape of the building. The large sign out front looks to be there which would have been visible from I-75. I think the definitive proof is Best Value Inn is using the old phone number of the Gay-Lord Motel, only with an updated area code.
