Continental House was opened in the summer of 1966 by Arnold O. Cocke for $200 grand, a tidy sum at the time. It was 4000 square feet and the capacity was 180 between the lounge and the restaurant. It was across the street from Dort Mall. The menu was steaks, seafood and a beef buffet. The following year, there was a fire causing $20k in damage. The restaurant remained open.
By the early 1970s, it became Cactus Charlies Steak House. After that, it was East Wind Cocktail Lounge and Smorgasbord. By the 1980's, it became Amigos Mexican Restaurante. By the 1990's, it was Cutter's Billiards & Cocktails. By the 2000s it became the Machine Shop which it remains as of 2025. It is a well-known rock concert venue which hosts lots of classic bands.
