General Information:

Thanks to Dave Dobner for some vintage info on this.

Tiny Tim's was a hobby center that featured slot car racing also. I was there many times as kid and it was a blast. They also were an Estes Rocket Dealer which my friends and I really got into for a while. I can't count how many rockets I destroyed or lost but it was fun. The original address of this place was 1400 N Woodward but that entire stretch has been renumbered since. I have used the address of the newer building that sits on what I believe is the former site.

The business was operated by the Laverdiere family for many years as the death notice below explains. There were 2 names registered to the site, Northwood Raceways (1965) and Tiny Tim Hobby Center (1975). The business operated until the early 1980's and had added video games by then, which were getting huge at that time. The ads in the paper end around 1983. There was also a Tiny Tim Hobby Center at 14922 Kercheval operated by Frank Gizzi. I am not sure if the 2 outlets were related but they were using the same name.

The building was originally Maskill Hardware. Sometime in the early 1960's, the hobby center opened up and ads began appearing in the Detroit papers. I don't recall if they operated in tandem or not. As for the exact location, the description is given as 2 blocks south of 14 mile on Woodward. There was a building demolished at that site in the early 2000's that I am assuming was the old building. I could be wrong on that however. As of now, I don't have a photo of the building or the hobby center but I will keep looking.
