Granview Orchards Ski Area was opened by the Peabody family in Feb 1961. They owned and operated an orchard on the premises and decided to add facilities for skiing. They had 5 rope tows, a lodge with snack bar, rental equipment, snow-making equipment and skating. I assume the photo below of the family was taken in front of the lodge.
The location was always given as 4 miles north of Fenton on Fenton Rd which is where the orchards were, approximately. There are 2 addresses associated with the place, 12053 and 12048. The 1964 aerial photo should show the ski area but it is a bit unclear. There were structures on both sides of the road in the early 1960's. On the west side there was 12048 which is still there. It seems to sit in the midst of what was the orchard.
There was another structure across the street which is now gone. I assume that was 12053. They both pre-dated the ski resort. 12053 eventually became some sort of adult club in the 1970's that ended up creating issues that eventually went to court. Sometime by the early 2000's that structure was demolished. Of the 2, I would guess 12053 was the ski lodge basing it on the photo of the family and the size of the building in the aerial photo. I could be 100% wrong however. It is hard to make out where the ski runs were. The area today is pretty flat.
